From Overwhelmed to Aligned: Creating Rhythms That Support Both Your Business and Your Body
I’ve learned that my business runs best when I do too.
The more I try to push through exhaustion, skip meals, or multitask family and work, the more I end up feeling off balance, and it always shows up in my creativity and focus.
Over time, I’ve built daily rhythms that help me stay connected to both my work and my body. They aren’t complicated, but they make everything flow better.
Movement before sitting down to work
If there’s one thing that changes everything for me, it’s movement before I open my laptop.
Whether it’s a brisk walk with the dog, a run, or a spin class, moving my body first thing expands time — literally. I get so much more done and feel calmer, clearer, and more accomplished throughout the day.
When I skip movement, my energy feels scattered. When I move first, the whole day feels anchored.
Letting go of morning work before the kids are out the door
I used to try to squeeze in emails or tasks right after my coffee, but it always backfired. I’d end up frustrated, rushing, or moody with my kids because I was trying to do two jobs at once — mom and business owner — and not fully present for either.
Now, I don’t even open my computer until the kids are at school or daycare.
My mornings are for helping create a calm, grounded start to their day.
Once they’re out the door, then I can switch gears fully into my own.
It’s such a simple shift, but it changed everything.
Staying hydrated (and remembering electrolytes)
It sounds basic, but hydration has a huge impact on how I feel and focus.
When I’m sluggish or foggy, nine times out of ten it’s because I haven’t had enough water.
Now I keep a large water bottle at my desk and always a full one when I get into the car. I usually add electrolytes — they help me feel more energized, lighter, and sharper throughout the day. The LMNT Raspberry Salt is my favorite after trying several. But warning: It’s super salty so you might have to use half in a large bottle of water to start.
It’s the easiest wellness tip there is, but it really works.
Not skipping meals — even if it means ordering out
If I don’t have lunch prepped or groceries on hand, I don’t stress anymore.
I order something nourishing instead — Sweetgreen, Chipotle, whatever sounds good.
It’s not about perfection, it’s about keeping myself fueled. When I skip meals, I lose focus and end up grazing on toddler snacks later. Ordering lunch out once or twice a week is a small investment that keeps me feeling human and productive.
Building business rhythms that match my energy
You can read more about how I plan my work week in my recent post — but the short version is this: I organize my work around my real life, not the other way around.
I don’t overschedule. I separate call days from creative days. I leave space for life, for rest, and for the unexpected.
That structure gives me freedom, not rigidity.
The takeaway
Supporting your body is supporting your business.
You can’t think clearly, write well, or show up for clients when you’re running on empty.
When you move, hydrate, eat, and align your days with your actual energy, everything flows better — your creativity, your work, and your sense of ease.
